Important: Due to some of the changes made in Patch 3.12, using 3rd party applications (such as LoLReplay) has a higher risk of crashing your game.  If your game is crashing, please try updating or uninstalling any applications you use alongside League of Legends.

Here are a few steps that should assist you with resolving the issue:

Check your card for Pixel Shader 2.0 Support

Updating graphics drivers

Update DirectX

Install Windows Updates

Run a repair

Disable your anti-virus

Disable overlay programs

Change your in-game video settings

Disable Anti Aliasing

If all else fails, send us a ticket!

Special Note: Please make sure that after each attempted solution, you first play a Tutorial Game or Custom Match without other players (bots are fine). Doing these tests in non-player games will help to make sure a fix was successful before joining games with other players. You don’t want to accidentally receive leaves or be unable to complete a game before the issues you are experiencing have been fully resolved.

1. Verify that your Graphics Card is Pixel Shader 2.0 compatible:

If the graphics card in your computer is an old model, or if it has a dedicated video memory of less than 64MB, it may not be Pixel Shader 2.0 compatible. In this case, your video card may not be Direct X 9.0c compatible, and is below the minimum required specifications to run League of Legends and you may have to upgrade your video card in order to be able to play.

2. Make sure your Graphics Card drivers are up to date:

We have a step by step guide available for this process here: Updating your Video Card Drivers

3. Update your DirectX:

You can find more information about DirectX, as well as a step by step guide to updating it here: DirectX Suggestions

4. Make sure you have all available Windows updates:

You may need to reboot your computer several times to install them all. Return to Windows update after each reboot until there are no longer any updates to install:

Windows 8 enables automatic updating during setup unless manually disabled. If you have disabled Automatic Update, follow these steps:

  1. Open the options menu from Desktop by hovering over the button in the bottom right corner of the screen
  2. Click on "Settings"
  3. Click on "More PC Settings"
  4. Select "Windows Update"

5. Run a Repair:

Occasionally, problems are caused by a corrupt file. This is especially true if your problem emerged after a recent patch or re-install. To run the repair function on your copy of League of Legends, simply open the game and click the gear button at the top, right-hand corner of the first window that appears (the Patcher)

This will open a menu that allows you to repair your League of Legends installation. Depending on the speed of your computer and the amount of corruption this could take anywhere between 5 and 30+ minutes. Click the “Repair” button to start the process.

6. Try disabling your anti-virus program(s):

It's very common for Anti-Virus programs to block certain files associated with League of Legends.  This step isn't intended as a permanent fix, merely as a troubleshooting step to determine the specific cause of your problem. If you disable your anti-virus program(s) and the issue goes away, then your Anti-Virus Program is most likely blocking League of Legends from running properly. In general, we don't suggest operating League of Legends with an Anti-Virus program active on your computer unless it has a “Gaming Mode” or options to allow all League of Legends processes to continue running without interruption.

7.Disable any programs that use an overlay (such as: Xfire, Mumble, Ventrilo, TeamSpeak, or Skype):

Programs that interact with and can potentially put stress on (aka: overlay with) the League of Legends client can sometimes cause issues within the game. By disabling these programs and then trying a custom match you can determine if the problem is coming from one of these programs.

8. Change your in-game video settings (if you're able to get into game):

Changing your video settings can often help the game to run more smoothly on your PC. Go to the Options menu (esc) and select “Video” to change these settings.

The following are recommended, minimal settings that can improve and optimize the way the game runs on your computer:

Shadows: No Shadow - Unless you are sure you have a Dedicated (not Integrated) graphics card
Wait for Vertical Sync: Toggle this setting on/off depending on your current selection
Frame Rate Cap: Stable
Resolution: Make sure your game resolution matches your desktop resolution and that you are running the game in Full Screen mode

To determine your desktop resolution:

    1.   Right click your desktop background
    2.   Select Properties (or Personalize in Windows Vista and Windows 7)
    3.   Select the Settings tab
    4.   Your desktop resolution is listed under Screen Resolution.

 9. Disable Anti-Aliasing

Anti-aliasing on your graphics must be set to “off” or to “automatic detection” for League of Legends to run effectively. If anti-aliasing is on, you may experience various graphical errors.

If you're unsure if this pertains to you, please feel free to submit a Support Ticket and include a Dxdiag (see below under “If you Continue to Experience Problems”) and we'd be happy to assist you.

Development is currently aware of an issue with Intel GPU's that causes Bug Splats specifically when loading our Summoner's Rift map. We are working on a fix for this to be released as soon as possible.  In the meantime, please try the following:

A) Play a Custom game and be sure to select any map other than the Summoner’s Rift map.  If you receive a Bug Splat error, the above fixes are more likely to resolve the issue for you.

B) If you don't receive a Bug Splat, try avoiding all matchmaking where map selection is random.  Instead, play the normal map on Custom games.

C) Roll back to the oldest available drivers for your graphics card and test whether that fixes this issue in a Custom game.  If this does not help, then repeat the process up to each newer driver available.  Please note, however, that this option is very time consuming and may not be best if you need an immediate fix.
